Serving Decatur Since 2013
Decatur is an established intown city, not a new suburb. The historic core around Decatur Square sets the tone, and the neighborhoods that ring it are mostly mature: craftsman bungalows in Oakhurst and the MAK district on McDonough, Adams, and Kings Highway, the tree-lined streets of Winnona Park near Agnes Scott College, and the older homes of Clairemont-Great Lakes and Lenox Place. Almost everything we do here is renovation on a property that has been landscaped before, which is a different job than starting from bare dirt. A plan that works on a new build in a far suburb looks wrong on a 1920s Decatur bungalow, so we fit the work to the home and the block.
The mature tree canopy that makes Decatur Decatur is also the source of most of the problems we get called for. Old oaks and sweetgums push surface roots that lift grade and crack poured concrete, and the dense red clay underneath drains slowly, so water sits where it should not. Natural stone handles that movement better than a rigid slab, which is why travertine steps, bluestone landings, and paver patios are so common here. We set everything on a proper compacted base, work carefully around protected root zones, and grade so runoff moves off the clay and away from older foundations.
From our Covington base, Decatur is about 32 miles northwest, a straight run up I-20, and we are out this way regularly.
