Local Knowledge

Serving Stone Mountain Since 2013

Stone Mountain Park draws visitors from across metro Atlanta, but the community around it is an established residential town with real landscaping needs. At its center is Stone Mountain Village, a historic railroad district on the National Register with early-1900s buildings along Main Street and Victorian and Craftsman homes on the surrounding streets. Out from the Village, older DeKalb subdivisions and the wooded estates of Smoke Rise fill in the rest. These are properties that have been landscaped before, so most of our work here is renovation and upkeep rather than starting from scratch.

The ground itself shapes the work. This is granite country, the same bedrock that makes up the mountain, and on a lot of lots that rock sits close to the surface under thin topsoil and dense red clay. Shallow rock and compacted clay mean water has nowhere to go, so drainage problems are among the most common calls we get, and trenching for irrigation or footings takes more care than a flat suburban lot. We handle the regrading and drainage that redirect runoff away from older foundations, sod replacement with proper ground prep, and full refreshes where overgrown beds get cleaned out, edges get reset, and curb appeal comes back.

The commercial corridors along US-78, the Stone Mountain Freeway, and Memorial Drive keep a steady base of retail and office property that needs grounds maintained year round, and our GDOT certification qualifies us for commercial and public works there. From our Covington base, Stone Mountain is about 28 miles northwest up I-20. Call (470) 226-7215 for a free written estimate on any scope of work.

Questions

Stone Mountain FAQ

Can you landscape a lot with granite rock close to the surface?

Yes. This is granite country, and on plenty of Stone Mountain lots the rock sits just under thin topsoil, which is exactly why a shortcut crew runs into trouble here. We check the ground before we dig and plan around it: bringing in soil where beds and sod need real depth, routing irrigation and footings to work with the rock rather than fighting it, and using retaining walls to make level, usable space on rocky, rolling lots. We work on both homes and commercial sites in the area. Call us at (470) 226-7215 to discuss your property.

Can you fix drainage on older DeKalb properties?

Yes. Drainage problems are common in older DeKalb County neighborhoods where Georgia red clay soil has compacted over decades and impervious surfaces have increased runoff. We assess the grading around your property, identify where water is pooling or moving toward your foundation, and correct it through regrading, drainage channels, or French drain installation as appropriate. The fix depends on the specific conditions of your property, which is why we come out and assess before quoting.

Is there a trip charge to Stone Mountain?

Stone Mountain is approximately 30 miles from our Covington base. We do not add a separate trip charge for jobs in the Stone Mountain area, but our estimates reflect the full cost of completing the work. Call us at (470) 226-7215 and describe the project, and we will schedule an on-site estimate at no cost.

Do you serve Stone Mountain Village and the Smoke Rise area?

Yes. We work the historic streets around Stone Mountain Village and Main Street as well as the wooded Smoke Rise estates, along with the older DeKalb subdivisions in between. The Village's early-1900s homes and the larger Smoke Rise lots call for different work, from careful bed refreshes on Victorian and Craftsman properties to grading and retaining walls on the rocky, rolling estate lots, and we handle both from our Covington base. Call (470) 226-7215 to confirm your street and book a free estimate.

Do you maintain commercial property along US-78 and Memorial Drive?

Yes. The retail and office corridors along US-78, the Stone Mountain Freeway, and Memorial Drive are a steady part of our Stone Mountain work, and our GDOT certification qualifies us for commercial and public works in the area. We hold year-round grounds maintenance contracts and also take on one-time commercial installs, drainage, and hardscape. Call us to walk the property and we will put together a written proposal.
